Black Bean Burgers

Made these for my vegetarian girlfriend last night after a long day of hiking and a few errands;

   Vegetarian Black Bean Burgers(Makes 5 patties)
1 can of black beans, well drained
1/2 medium onion, small dice
2 slices of bread, crumbled
1/2 cup of flour
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp seasoned salt
Salt and pepper to taste
  • First dice the onions, if you don't know how to do this I'm going to post some instructions on it later, and saute them in a 10-12" skillet, with oil, until soft or slightly browned, 4-5 minutes. Set aside.
  • Next, after draining them, mash the beans(preferably with a potato masher) in a large bowl until it becomes pasty, then stir in the onions.
  • Put the bread in a toaster on a low setting, while the bread is toasting gather and measure out your spices, adding them into the mix. When the bread is ready, put it through a food processor, or you can do it manually, until you have the crumbs. Stir these into the mix.
  • Next, measure out the flour and add it in small increments in order to make sure it spreads evenly. Your mix should now be thick.
  • Start forming the mix into 1/2" thick patties, rolling them into balls and flattening them out until you have about 5 even patties.
  • Begin frying, 2-3 patties at a time, they should take anywhere between 5-10 minutes to cook depending on the setting you have chosen, flip once every 2 minutes to ensure equal cooking. The finished product should resemble a patty made from Swedish meatballs, light brown with onions.
  • Serve immediately(I would recommend pepper jack for the cheese)
  • Enjoy.
